Hi Po 289 H.O.

High Power 289 High Output

Early revving friendly Small Block ford configuration meets with late high-nickel 5.0 fox mustang roller block. I want to take the good of both the daily driver and long-lasting roller 5.0 engine and combine it with the best of the 298 K code.
To me this means a late model roller block in my case '89. The HiPo had basically stock 289 heads: ports and valves were the same, only springs were upgraded and screw in rocker studs, both to help live at higher revs. My aproximation of this is to use the newest designed Ford Castings for the SBF pushrod: the GT40P. These are restrictive port, small valve iron heads, but are nicer (smoother) and flow more than the 289 heads. Folks do well with the P heads with their 302's but in the sprit of this build, I am re-using the crank and rods from my 1967 fastback's 289. The P heads should be able to well keep up with the lessened cubic inches. A deviation from the HiPo is my choice for forged pistons. This is because of economy and reliability. I already have them. The max taper in the bore is 0.003" these pistons were stock in the 1989 block
