SCHEDULE: THURSDAY, Feb. 9 - Sportsman qualifying and time trials begin at 8:15 a.m. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFYING SESSION at 2 p.m. Professional competitors in three categories earn points leading to 2006 NHRA POWERade Series world championships. Sportsman competitors in six categories earn points leading to 2006 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series world championships. Pomona Raceway Opened in 1950 as a way to combat street racing, Pomona Raceway is the oldest venue on the NHRA POWERade circuit and has hosted the season opener since 1961. The tour also ends at this historic facility. How to Get There: The track is about 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. From Interstate 10 east, exit Fairplex Drive or White Avenue and go north; follow signs to the Fairplex. From I-10 west, exit Fairplex Drive and go north. The track is about one mile north of the interstate. Arrow Highway provides access from the north.
